Safety first

Do not use a match or lighter, attempt to relight the pilot, open the appliance, or perform any gas-appliance work.

What to do now

  1. Leave the appliance off and do not attempt to relight or service it.
  2. Contact PG&E for a pilot-light appointment online or by phone at 1-800-743-5000.
  3. After contacting PG&E, submit a DRG maintenance request so management is aware.
  4. If you smell gas or hear gas escaping, leave immediately and call 911 and PG&E from a safe location.

Stop and request maintenance if

  • You smell gas, hear hissing, or a gas alarm sounds.
  • Anyone feels dizzy, nauseated, weak, or has a headache.
  • The appliance appears damaged, unusually hot, or discolored.
